There's a postcard on our fridge
Beside a print of our two pets
Held by a pink magnet
You wrote of the river you lay down next to
And how you scooped up the water with your hands
I picture this in slow motion and I see
Smaller rivers weave their way down your arms
You thought you caught a glimpse of my reflection
As you contemplated our future
I've come to realize my intent was to hurt you
I let out all my anger and I shake my head
To think how much irretrievable damage have I done
To inflict myself upon you
The bush floor becomes your bed the sky a blanket
And moonbeams on the water break into a thousand pieces
You wrote of the trees and how they danced in the moonlight
And how every falling leaf lies to rest
Is this your way of telling me I'm forgiven
I hope I'm not reading too much into this
